Little did our protagonists know, but when they attended the Language Assistants' meeting in Limoges, France, they would meet their match during lunch at a local restaurant. In the following months, our protagonists were working and living in their respective towns in the French hinterlands, which were about two hours apart by train. This did not stop them from keeping in touch though and, in January, Michaela and a friend came over to visit Moritz and his roommates to go to a museum nearby. Sadly it was closed, but they enjoyed the other’s company so much, they continued to visit each other after that.
Sadly, all good things must come to an end and, just before Easter, Moritz had to go back to Heidelberg, Germany to finish his studies. Luckily, Michaela had the chance to visit him for a week during her Easter holidays. On the day she was meant to leave, due to a huge miscalculation on her part, in which she took her train an entire day too early, they were able to spend more time with each other and realized that they wanted to keep in touch. Both knew that not seeing each other for three months would be tough, but they decided to try it anyway.
After a month of not being able to meet up and lots and lots of Skype dates and Whatsapp texts, Moritz traveled to Canada and spent his summer vacation there. Through several nights of camping on Sunshine Coast, a few days on Vancouver Island, and day trips into the city, Michaela showed Moritz the beautiful Canadian nature and the impressive cities with its enormous trees and huge malls- a new experience for our European. It is said that the exhaustion from jetlag has left a bitter taste in our fellow German’s mouth and, to this day, he still hates when he has to go through it.
Through good connections and some luck, Michaela had found a job in Germany. With this wish fulfilled, she agreed to move to Germany and immediately started working in an international kindergarten in Heidelberg. In the beginning, they were living with four other flatmates in a rented out house, but after a few months, it quickly became clear to them they had to find a place of their own.
Although in a decent location, their first flat was a bit too small to the point where showering standing up was not an option, not even for Michaela. So only one year later, our couple moved into their current flat. Bigger, nicer, better located, and exactly what they needed for their current lifestyle. On November 15th 2019, only two weeks after moving, they got married!
Now, finally, after two years of waiting, our protagonists are looking forward to celebrating their happy union with you. Let’s enjoy an evening filled with laughter, love, and good cheer for the two international love birds!
